From the cemetery, we quickly descended through the old town of Harpers Ferry, crossed a former railroad bridge, and followed the C&O Canal for about a half mile before hitting the trail head. The pictures below show our hike along the Maryland Heights trail and the views from the Cliffside Overlook 350 feet above Harpers Ferry.

Operation Mountain Adventure 2.0 - Harpers Ferry, WV
With the threat of evening thunder showers over Northern Virginia and Pennsylvania, Jessica and I decided it might not be the best weekend to test out our "new" tent. So instead, we chose to make a day trip out to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Our decision was rewarded after only a quarter mile into our 6 mile hike. As we picked our way through a historic cemetery, the hillside fell away, opening to stunning vistas of the bluffs across from the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers.
